Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi on Sunday said there is a huge potential for investment in the agro-processing industry in Bangladesh. Spanish investors will get benefits if they invest in this sector here. The government has offered special facilities to foreign investors.

The Commerce Minister made the remarks during a view-exchange meeting with Spanish Ambassador to Dhaka Francisco de Assis Benitez Salas at his secretariat office in the capital. All formalities in investment have been simplified. With the initiative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the work of setting up 100 special economic zones in different important places of the country is progressing fast.

Meanwhile, various countries including China, Korea, Japan and India have come forward to invest in Bangladesh. Apart from China and India, Bangladesh is a major market for different products. Bangladesh has sufficient skilled manpower. Bangladesh is now an excellent place to invest.

The Commerce Minister also said, “Spain is the fourth largest export market of Bangladesh. There are plenty of opportunities to increase trade with Spain. It is possible to increase this trade through exchange of visits by traders of both the countries. In 2024, Bangladesh will emerge from LDC and become a developing country. Bangladesh expects to continue the ongoing GSP facility from Spain.”

The Spanish ambassador said, “Spain is a friend of Bangladesh. Spain also attaches great importance to Bangladesh in terms of trade. Spain is happy with the ongoing development and economic progress in Bangladesh. There is a lot of demand of Bangladeshi readymade garments in Spain”.

“In the future, Spain will import more readymade garments from Bangladesh and the scope of trade will also increase. Spain is happy that Bangladesh is leaving LDC but it will continue its support to Bangladesh even after LDC graduation”, the ambassador added.
