We express our concern over the trafficking of young girls and housewives from Bangladesh to different foreign countries including India using TikTok trap and forcing them into prostitution there.

Of late, Police have arrested seven suspected members of an organised sex trafficking ring that used TikTok to contact and lure young women and girls before selling them for sex in neighbouring India. We do not have the exact statistics about how many young girls and housewives have been trafficked for sexual exploitation from Bangladesh to other foreign countries. Reportedly, a transnational gang involving some Bangladeshis is behind trafficking of young girls. Police say some criminals from the southwestern region of Bangladesh and several Indian states are involved in the gang. It is apprehended that the gang network is stretched out to Dubai, UAE and some other countries in the Middle East.

It is time to take necessary steps to

protect women from the trap of the

organised international human-trafficking gang

The gang targets the school, college students and even young housewives. And the gang members add their targets to specific Facebook group of TikTok users and later traffic them to India in the name of providing well-paid jobs and making them TikTok models.

When a video that shows torturing of a Bangladeshi 22-year-old young girl went viral on social media in India and Bangladesh, police came to know about the new method of trafficking. Assam police shared clips from the video circulating on social media to trace the accused and Bengaluru city police arrested Rifadul Islam Hridoy alias Tiktok Hridoy five others involved with the incident. They have an understanding with some hotels in India where they send the trafficked girls and record obscene videos of them.

We think these are heinous crimes and blatant violations of human rights. It is time to take necessary steps to protect women from the trap of the organised international human-trafficking gang. The government should take stringent actions against human traffickers and bring back the trafficked girls home.
