Tigresses start Super Six match today

Bangladesh lasses are taking on the host South Africa challenge in their first match of Super Six campaign of the ICC Women’s Under-19 cricket World Cup with a high hope today (Saturday) at Potchefstroom. 

Tigresses will play their two matches of the Super Six phase at Potchefstroom at 5:45 PM (BST) and will play their second match on January 25 against UAE at the same ground.  

Young Tigresses, who ensured their Super Six phase with their all- win credits in the first round, can aspire to go further as they brushed aside Australia to make a promising start, downed Sri Lanka before outplaying USA in the group last match.  

The Tigresses’ outstanding demonstration in the Group leg matches was not much-unfancied but they have hit the right notes ever since they reached the Proteas lands when they proved some of their potentials during the warm-up matches of the tournament after defeating South Africa and top favourites of the tournament India. 

Bangladesh U-19 Women are aiming to continue their record of success – although there is a long way to go in the tournament. However, the Tigresses have made an even more promising start.

The win over South Africa in their warm-up fixture by seven runs in D/L method in a rain affected encounter, Today it might be a huge boost up for the Bangladesh women. 

Bangladesh young tigresses, who stormed into the Super Six round, lined up with Australia, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka and UAE in the Group 1.

But in accordance with the formation of the tournament Bangladesh will play their Super Six matches against South Africa and United Arab Emirates (UAE) of Group 2.

The formation of the tournament set with the top three teams from every group would advance to the next round, the Super Six. The 12 teams then would be divided into two groups of six teams each.

While Group 1 included the top three teams of Group A and D, Group 2 consisted of the top three teams from Group B and C. The top two teams from Groups 1 and 2 will progress further to the knock-out stage to play the two semi-final matches.

The Tigresses, who were simply underdogs ahead of taking Australia, keeping up their momentum of warm-up matches proved their credential just overwhelming the world cricket giants with a seven wickets victory over them.

After dismantling the top-ranked Australia, the young Tigresses outplayed one of the Asian powerhouses Sri Lanka women by 10 runs in their second match and finally defeated their USA counterparts by five wickets to make their room in the Super Six stage as the Group D champions.

Bangladesh women, who played their warm-up matches at Steyn City School, Dainfern against South Africa and St Stithians Main Oval, Johannesburg against India, and the group phase matches at Benoni, will play their first match at the Potchefstroom where they may have to play on a bit different character of wickets.

But the wins in the group stages and in the warm-up matches against the giants will be a huge inspiration for them.
