Tigers to face stiff hurdle in every World Cup match

Published : 20 Oct 2022 09:13 PM

The upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup turned into like a ‘mission impossible’ for the Tigers when they are going to take part in the competition with a huge unimpressive feature of New Zealand tour and last warm up match against Afghanistan.

For the Tigers no doubt every match would be a stiff hurdle to cross when they will kick off their campaign from October 24 with taking on the team will qualify from Group A of the qualifying round.

In the recent T-20 matches Tigers had very woeful experiences when they travelled Australia after losing four matches in a row in the Tri-nation competition in New Zealand followed by the Asia Cup disaster in UAE.

The last warm match of the Tigers against South Africa was abandoned due to rain on Wednesday, might be from this match Bangladesh could have a big experiences of playing against the team who will be the opponents in their second match in World Cup on October 27.

Result against South Africa right now would not be a big factor or any impression but they could have an idea about the South African before taking on them.

Tigers are yet clearing the mental mystify from their back-to-back defeats in UAE in the Asia Cup and their final preparations matches in New Zealand in the Tri-nation tournament, when a land slide defeat of 98 runs to Afghanistan was another woeful experience ahead to begin the Word Cup.

However, the captain Shakib Al Hassan of course not very happy with team’s struggling to regain their intensity for a long, though he continues to have the backing of his team he finds himself inform and concerns over his T20 strike rate, as there would be tough competition in the World Cup.

Bangladesh will have to face at least four giants in their Group B, besides Pakistan, India and South Africa, Sri Lanka are coming from the qualifying phase.

But considering the recent performances of Tigers’ T-20 matches, so far every opponent will turn into giants for them.

Meanwhile, the technical consultant of the Tigers said last week, a day before to leave for Australia that Bangladesh have positives to take, though the team failed to win even a match out of last five matches.

Bangladesh had a lot of experiments to have a perfect team combination, specially a determined opening pair for World Cup and a good bowling solution when even in the last warm math they fielded a changed opening partners.

So, it is still very much uncertain, what would be the starting line-up and who will open the innings.

Whoever will come in the team, all round a very disciplined and some spectacular performances are demanded from the boys that could make things easier for them.

From the mental point of view, it would be something a tirelessly long tour for the Tigers after coming back from  losses in UAE and New Zealand, so now it is important that to try and create some momentum right from the first match of the World Cup.

The defeats, both In the Asia Cup and Tri-nation matches leaving their World Cup hopes in disarray while their first warm up trouncing has left them in a precarious position on the Super 12 phase.
