Tigers seal historic series win

Bangladesh have done it. Tigers have achieved a historical feat as they beat Australia by 10 runs in the third T20 and sealed the 5-match series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

It was a historical moment in Bangladesh’s cricket history as for the first time ever Bangladesh have defeated Australia in a bilateral series. Tigers now lead the series 3-0.

We witnessed a fantastic performance with the ball by the Tigers, led by the ever-consistent Mustafizur Rahman, who bowled unbelievably well and gave just 9 runs in his 4 allotted overs as Bangladesh were defending a mere 127. They battled to 127 with the bat then defended like Tigers. When Australia’s Mitch Marsh and Ben McDermott were together Australia were well placed, but it was very difficult for new batters to settle as the Aussies innings ended at 117/4.

Defending a challenging total of 128, Tigers started off brilliantly with the bowl again as Aussie skipper Matthew Wade was removed by spinner Nasum Ahmed. However, after that, in form batsman Mitchell Marsh and Ben McDermott showed resonance. They were batting confidently and kept the scoreboard moving. However, Tigers resolute bowling at the other end kept the pressure on Australia and in the 13.2 overs. Shakib finally bowled McDermott, then Moises Henriques followed suit off a Shoriful Islam delivery, leaving Australia under pressure at 74/3 after 14.1 overs. After that they never recovered as it was a difficult pitch to bat on. Marsh’s 47-ball 51 was not enough to secure a win for the Aussies. For Bangladesh Shoriful grabbed 2 wickets, with Nasum and Shakib grabbing one wicket each.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Mahmudullah Riyad has won the toss and elected to bat first. Mahmudullah, was the lone fighter for the team as he held his nerve during a tricky period of the game. He scored 52 off 53 deliveries before his stumps was rattled in the final over of the game off a debutant pacer Nathan Ellis delivery. Ellis then had Mustafizur Rahman and Mahedi Hasan caught in the final two deliveries of the game to complete his hattrick.
