After conclusion of a series of drama fired up with Tamim Iqbal’s retirement, Tigers camp is going on full sewing ahead of the Asian Cup and the ICC Men’s World Cup cricket, initiated early of last week.
Though the rain interrupted the outdoor practice in the first three days, but last two days the practice are going on smoothly.
In the Asia Cup, Bangladesh will face off the hosts Sri Lanka challenge on August 31st following Pakistan taking on Nepal in the inaugural match on August 30.
However, leaving the all dramas Tigers could start the practice peacefully and concentrate on their training sessions.
The drama started with the ODI captain Tamim Iqbal’s teary announcement from international cricket on July 6 after the first off three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Chattogram on July 6.
It touched a nerve everywhere and a talk across the country over the past few days, when surrounded by a throng of reporters Tamim made the announcement at a press conference with extremely emotional and in tears, and the news reached the Prime Minister, the sports lover lady called him and told to withdraw the decision.
There was no way but to withdraw the decision in the following afternoon when Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested him to reverse his decision.
Tamim Iqbal, an all-format genius of Bangladesh cricket, the opener, tops almost all batting chats for the country, then went Dubai and UK to have his back injury checked, has been given a six-week break to recover from the injury. The diagnosis was that his pain is generating from L4 and L5 discs. After preliminary treatment relieved him of pain but was advised to rest for two weeks, till August 11, after which he will resume his rehab. And he can only return to the nets in another two weeks.
As a result, Tamim will miss the upcoming Asia Cup as his repeated back injury is unlikely to heal in time and eventually he has stepped down as Bangladesh’s ODI captain to give more transparency to the team and the BCB ahead of the World Cup.
But after Tamim’s quitting from the captaincy, another drama started with BCB unveiling Bangladesh’s new ODI captain, as the board couldn’t finalise the name of captain, as they taking Shakib Al Hassan, incumbent vice-captain Litton Das and Mehidy Hassan Miraz are the contenders for the captaincy. The Board thought that it was necessary to take the candidates’ views also into consideration before to finalise the name.
It was very harsh that, when the experienced Shakib Al Hassan was there and Litton Das was in-charge in absence of Tamim, it was not too much difficult to choice one of them as captain and very much easy to find out the better option. But there was added the name of Mehidy Hassan Miraz to make it three contenders for captaincy.
It was not also any difficult judgement to have the best choice from the three but BCB, had an emergency meeting to select the captain but could not finalise it.
After a drama they announced Shakib Al Hassan would be the captain to lead the Tigers in the Asia Cup in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, New Zealand tour of Bangladesh and the ICC World Cup in India.
After ending all the drama, BCB unveiled the New ODI captain of Bangladesh and the Tigers are now concentrating on their practice sessions.
