It’s another batting debacle of the Tigers at the Caribean soil as they embarked on two-match Test series with a disaster when they were bundled out for 103 runs in the first innings of the first match on Thursday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.
It is almost a same episode was staged at the same ground on Thursday, as it took place in 2018 when of Bangladesh first innings was wrapped up cheaply for 43 runs and this time Tigers could manage 60 runs more before being ruined for 103 runs.
It is not hard to imagine that the Tigers are going to face the fate, they experienced four years back but the way to escape from that kind of humiliation Bangladesh bowlers will have to do anything exceptional or the Tigers will have to make a strong comeback to do a miracle in the second innings.
It can mentioned that Bangladesh in their 2018 West Indies tour suffered 2-0 series defeat after going down by an inning and 219 runs in the first Test and 166 runs defeat in the second Test.
Meanwhile, the Tigers have also some happy memories of West Indies tour under the captaincy of Shakib Al Hassan when they defeated the hosts by 2-0 in the two-match Test series and that time, Shakib was entrusted with the duty to lead the team as Mashrafi bin Mortaza ruled out for injury after the first Test but the prolific all-rounder, who was on his pick, kept the momentum of first Test victory to clinched the series by 2-0.
At that time Shakib played the key role to win the second Test with his amazing all-round performances taking eight wickets, three in first innings and five in the second innings and scored 158 runs with captain’s knock 70 and 90 runs.
In fact that time riding on the Shakib’s solo efforts Bangladesh could taste the series win for the first time against West Indies at their soil.
Now the captain Shakib would have to reveal his splendid all-round display of 2009 then it would be possible to salvage the Tigers from any humiliation defeat. But obviously there should someone in bowling or batting will have to appear to give proper accompany the captain.
Though the West Indians made a great threat after bowling out the Tigers in their first innings very cheaply but the prospects or the possibility to make a strong comeback are not at all ruined when Tigers have every ability and experienced enough to bounce back.
