Bangladesh lost their last match against the five-time champions Australia by eight wickets at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Saturday.
Tigers ended their mission of the 13th ICC Men’s World Cup with another heavy defeat. Tigers had a dismal performance in their World Cup campaign as they lost seven out of nine matches. However, the Tigers made a flying start to the tournament defeating Afghanistan.
But then Bangladesh lost six matches on trot against England, New Zealand, India, South Africa, Netherlands, and Pakistan.
Bangladesh won the match against Sri Lanka after a terrible 'timed out' fiasco, however, the Tigers lost the next match against Australia.
Bangladesh's only solace will come from the fact they avoided damage to their net run-rate and will likely qualify for the Champions Trophy barring the Netherlands upsetting India.
Bangladesh, however, ended their mission with two wins and seven defeats, collecting four points from nine matches. They are at eighth position at this moment and looked likely to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in 2025.
Along with hosts Pakistan, top eight teams of the World Cup will take part in the Champions Trophy.
Tigers’ cricket fanatics are all disappointed with the overall performance of the players and they think that every player in the current team should come out of the mindset that they are irreplaceable, their body language was somewhat complacent throughout the tournament and they should strive for their positions in the team.
Before the conclusion of the World Cup, Bangladesh returned home at 10 am on Sunday morning. Due to flight delay, the team landed an hour after the schedule time.
It was known that Bangladesh team will take the flight at night after the match against Australia is over. However, it was later informed that Tigers will take the flight on Sunday morning.
All the players came to the country. Head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has come as the only member of the coaching staff.
However, the cricketers will take rest for some days after returning home. Players will ready for the upcoming Test against New Zealand. Tigers will play two Tests against the Black Caps. The first Test will commence at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on November 28. The Kiwis will set foot in Dhaka on November 22.
