Tigers disgraceful defeat to UAE

Published : 20 May 2025 07:46 PM

Tigers’ finally saw the disaster when they suffered a humiliating defeat to lowly United Arab Emirates in their second T20 match on Tuesday.

It was second time Bangladesh humiliated by cricket minnows, when they suffered series defeat to USA just one year back, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

That time Bangladesh set to play a four-match T20 series against USA as a part of their World Cup preparation and the Tigers began the series with a woeful five wickets (BD 153/6, USA 156/5) just on this day, May 21, 2024. The USA stunned Bangladesh winning the second match by six runs (USA 144/6, BD 138/10). Bangladesh, though won the low scoring third match by 10 wickets (USA 104 in 20 overs, BD 108 in 14.4 overs for no loss) and a chance was left for them at least to finish series on 2-2, but the rain washed out the fourth and last match and USA won the series.

Right after a year, this time also Bangladesh is scheduled to play two match T20 series (now one match added) against UAE and five-match series against Pakistan, as a part of the T20 World Cup 2026.

Might be it is the most humiliating for Bangladesh in their last 25 years history to suffer defeat to a team, who recently lost a match to Saudi Arabia and just escaped with a two runs win against Kwait.

However, Bangladesh, who won the first match against UAE, was not at all an easy going when the host at one stage raised the hope to win the match with scoring 103 runs by 11.2 runs for three wickets chasing the target of 191. But some incredible bowling efforts they could survive with a 27-run victory.

In the first match, the overall performances of the batters were very unimpressive, as riding on just a 100-run innings from Pervej Emon Bangladesh scored 191 runs for seven wickets. Apart from Emon, rest of the batters disappointed all when the second highest 21 runs came from extras and Towhid Hridoy scored 20 runs.

In fact, in the first match the batters almost flopped and in the second match bowlers displayed  ordinary show, as they could not defend the 200 plus total.

It’s obviously very much alarming for the Tigers ahead of the Pakistan tour, where they will play a three-match T20 series.  Meanwhile, earlier it was scheduled that Bangladesh will play five-match T20I series, but it has been reduced to three matches.   Although, the Tigers’ captain Litton Das vowed to make a strong comeback today in the third match, and might be they would manage the series win losing to UAE is a big blow, as well as disgraceful for Bangladesh.
