Experts at a discussion in Rajshahi on Friday unequivocally called for giving utmost emphasis on following precise standards in all forms of life for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In order to achieve these goals, the cooperation of various public and private partners, the use of all the available tools, including the conformity assessment and international standards, is urgently required.

The Divisional Office of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institutions (BSTI) organised the discussion at its conference hall in observance of the World Standard Day-2022.

The theme for this year's World Standards Day is "Shared vision for a better world- Standards for sustainable development goals" aimed at increasing the understanding of how standardization is significant in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

World Standards Day is celebrated every year on October 14 to spread awareness about the significance of standardization in the global economy among regulators, consumers and industries. Divisional Director of Local Government Division Enamul Haque addressed the discussion as the chief guest with BSTI Director Engineer Shafiullah Khan in the chair.

Professor Rafiqul Alam Beg from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and President of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries Masudur Rahman also spoke on the occasion.

Enamul Haque said the process of standardisation is an important tool for facilitating trade and overcoming technical challenges. He also said standards have been important to every individual in the world and we all have been raised with this concept.

World Standards Day 2022 is also a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts who develop voluntary technical agreements that are published as international standards. The Day is a collaborative initiative of the International organization for Standardisation (ISO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

In his remarks, Professor Rafique Beg said emphasis has been placed on eliminating social imbalances, sustainable economic development and limiting the scale of climate change in order to achieve the SDGs.
