The embassy of Morocco in Bangladesh celebrated the ‘Throne Day’, marking the 27th anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the Throne of his glorious ancestors.
The celebration took place at a Sheraton Hotel, Dhaka, Gulshan in the capital on July 30.
Abdul Awal Mintoo Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change attended the celebration as the Chief Guest while Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Ministers, Members of Parliament and Distinguished Guests attended the among others.
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Bangladesh, Lalla Bouthaina El Kerdoudi El Koulali delivered her speech on the occasion.
Ambassador said the ‘Throne Day’ is far more than just a national celebration. It is a cherished moment that renews the pact of allegiance and the deep, age-old ties between the Moroccan people and their Sovereign—symbolizing our nation’s enduring unity, stability, diversity, and deep-rooted values of peace, respect, and tolerance.
She extended her warmest congratulations to the Bangladeshi government and people, following the recent transparent, free and fair elections, which brought the BNP under the able leadership of Tarique Rahman to power in a landslide victory—a milestone poised to guide Bangladesh toward sustained progress, prosperity, and stability.
Morocco was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Bangladesh in 1973, laying the foundation for a relationship that has steadily grown stronger over the decades.
“We fondly remember the visit of President Shahid Ziaur Rahman to Morocco in 1980, a landmark in our bilateral relations. As a lasting tribute to his legacy, Late King Hassan II proudly named one of Rabat's prestigious avenues after him”, Ambassador said adding that Today, Morocco and Bangladesh continue to work closely together and support each other’s candidacies in multilateral fora, particularly within the UN and the OIC, united by our shared commitment to peace, dialogue, sustainable development, and international solidarity.
Morocco recalls with deep appreciation Bangladesh's steadfast support for the inscription of the Moroccan Caftan on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
She congratulated Bangladesh on its brilliant election to the Presidency of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
“This well-deserved achievement reflects Bangladesh's growing international stature, and Morocco keenly looks forward to working hand in hand with Bangladesh during this landmark presidency to advance our shared objectives”, said Moroccan envoy.
Mentioning that the future of Morocco-Bangladesh relations is exceptionally promising, Ambassador said the recent visit of the State Minister Shama Obead Islam to Rabat, marked by fruitful high level meetings with several Moroccan key ministers, has opened a new and exciting chapter in our economic partnership.
“Today, as you know, Morocco has positioned itself as a leading industrial, logistics, and investment hub in Africa—a trusted gateway connecting international partners to the immense opportunities offered by the African continent”.
She underscored that with its modern infrastructure, extensive network of free trade agreements with more than sixty countries, world-class ports, and ambitious continental initiatives—including the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline and the Atlantic African Initiative—Morocco offers unique opportunities for Bangladeshi investors and businesses seeking access to African and international markets.
“At the same time, Bangladesh's impressive economic dynamism, strong sense of enterprise, youthful population and strategic location, giving access to a regional market of 3 billion consumers make it a valuable partner for Morocco, which holds Bangladesh in the highest regard and is committed to forging an enduring strategic alliance with it”, she added.
“Together, we can build stronger and mutually beneficial cooperation in sectors such as textiles, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, maritime connectivity, shipbuilding, agro-industry, education, tourism, to cite but a few”.
“As the new Ambassador of Morocco, I am fully determined to leave no stone unturned in elevating our partnership to new heights”, she said adding that Morocco remains dedicated to delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that enhance agricultural productivity and long-term resilience in Bangladesh.
She said that this not merely as a commercial relationship, but as a partnership of shared responsibility and prosperity. Beyond trade and policy, the true strength of the relationship between Morocco and Bangladesh lies in the deep bonds between our two peoples. Despite the geographical distance, our societies share remarkable similarities in their values, traditions, and daily behavior, stemming from our common Islamic heritage.
She sincerely hoped that the Bangladesh national football team will qualify for a future FIFA World Cup, and perhaps even for the edition that Morocco will proudly co-host in 2030.
