Three youths were killed and two others injured when a private car fell into a roadside ditch in Sadar upazila of the district in the early hours of on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Barna Basak,22, son of Kapil Basak, resident of Suihari Mahalla in Dinajpur town, Emon Hasan,23, son of Arshad Ali of Munsipara Mahalla and Shahriar Shaon,24, son of Shafiqul Islam of Kasba in Dinajpur town.
"The accident occurred when a speeding private car was moving towards Dinajpur town from 13 miles of Kaharole upazila on the Dinajpur-Dashmile highway at 12.30am. The car driver lost control over the steering and hit a tree on the side of the road and fell into a ditch, leaving one dead on the spot and four others seriously injured," Dinajpur Traffic Police Inspector ATM Touhidul Islam said.
The injured were admitted to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College and Hospital, where Emon and Shaon succumbed to their injuries.
The rest of the injured were shifted to Dhaka Pangu Hospital for better treatment, he added.
