Three women were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in front of Mohana Community Center in Mouchak area under Bahubal upazila of the district early hours of today.
The deceased were identified as Manjila Begum, 45, Tanzila Begum, 35, and Shahinur Begum, 45, residents of Gobindpur village under Hossainpur upazila in Kishoreganj district.
The accident occurred in the area when a Dhaka-bound stone-laden truck collided head-on with a pick-up, leaving its three passengers dead on the spot and 10 others injured, said Md Rakibul Islam, Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bahubal Model Police Station.
They were going to the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal (RA) in Sylhet from Gobindpur village of Hossainpur upazila in Kishoreganj around 1.30am.
The injured were admitted to Bahubal Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj 250-Bed District Modern Hospital, he said.
Another report adds from Jamalpur: A four- year old minor girl was killed in a road accident at Islampur Upazila here in the district this afternoon.
The victim was identified as Muslima, daughter of Majibar Rahman at village Degreer Char under Islampur Upazaila of the district.According to police, a speeding battery run easy bike hit Muslima when she was crossing the road by the side her house. In the accident she died on the spot.
Local people seized the easy-bike and detained its driver. The driver was later handed over to the local police.
