Three smugglers held with 1000 grams of gold in Patenga

Members of Coast Guard arrested three smugglers with gold ornaments weighing 1000 grams in Patenga of Chattogram on Thursday afternoon.

Lieutenant Commander Khandaker Munif Taki, the media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed the matter.

He said, based on intelligence information, it is known that a shipment of gold from abroad will enter Chattogram illegally through Shah Amanat International Airport.

Based on the information received, a special operation was conducted on Thursday at Coast Guard Base led by Chattogram Division Anti-Smuggling Officer - Lt. Commander HM Tanjimul Islam Majumdar on the Airport to Patenga road adjacent to Chattogram Airport.

During the operation, at approximately 12: 30am, Coast Guard personnels signaled to stop the movement of a micro moving in front of Coast Guard Outpost Patenga CCMC.

Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, the micro tried to escape at a high speed, but the micro was stopped by a member of the Coast Guard.

Later, 50 pieces of gold bangles, 49 pieces of gold rings (total 1,000 gms), 01 laptop, 19 mobile phones, 16 cartoon Dunhill cigarettes were seized after searching the micro. All the smugglers are permanent residents of Chattogram. He also said, “In primary investigation, the smugglers admitted that they have been involved in illegal gold smuggling for a long time.
