The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three Rohingya men with 40,000 yaba pills while they were allegedly attempting to smuggle the drugs across the border at Ghumdhum in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban.

The operation was carried out early Friday morning near the Mandalpara border area under Ghumdhum Union, according to Lieutenant Colonel S M Khairul Alam, Commanding Officer of BGB Battalion-34.

The detainees have been identified as: Md Hasan (25), son of the late Hafez Ahmed from Block 9D; Enam Karim (25), son of Abdur Rahim from Block C-8; and Md Ayaz (21), son of Md Hasan from Block A-9—all from Camp 19 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar.

Lt Col Khairul Alam said BGB personnel, acting on intelligence, noticed three suspicious individuals crossing the zero line from Myanmar carrying a bag. When ordered to stop, the suspects attempted to flee, dropping the bag. BGB members gave chase and successfully apprehended them.

Upon searching the bag, 40,000 yaba tablets were recovered.

Legal proceedings have been initiated, and a case has been filed with Naikhongchhari Police Station under the appropriate narcotics laws.
