Three more die of dengue, 1,022 hospitalised

Three more people have died from dengue in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning, bringing the total death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 177 this year.

In the same period, 1,022 new dengue patients were admitted to nationwide hospitals, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Within Dhaka, 247 patients were hospitalised in areas under Dhaka North City Corporation, while 163 were admitted in Dhaka South. 

In addition, 169 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, 42 in the Mymensingh Division, 143 in the Chattogram Division, 119 in the Khulna Division, 27 in the Rajshahi Division, 93 in the Barishal Division, and six in the Sylhet Division.

As per the DGHS record, 14 people died in January this year, three in February, five in March, two in April, 12 in May, eight in June, 12 in July and 27 in August, and 80 in September.

Since January 1, 2024, Bangladesh has reported a total of 34,121 dengue cases. 

Last year saw the highest recorded number of deaths from the mosquito-borne disease, with 1,705 fatalities. 

The DGHS also documented 321,179 dengue cases and 318,749 recoveries in 2023, making it the most severe dengue outbreak in the country’s history.
