At least three people were killed and 10 others injured in a violent clash between two rival groups over a land dispute in Kurigram's Roumari upazila on Thursday.
The incident took place around noon at Bhundur Char village near the Bangladesh-India border in the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Phul Babu, 43, his elder brother Bulu Mia, 52, and their nephew Nurul Amin, 30 — all residents of Bhundur Char village.
According to locals, there had been a long-running conflict over land between the families of Shahjamal and Rabbani.
As a sequel to the dispute, the two groups locked into an altercation over the issue. They, at one point, swooped on each other with locally made sharp weapons, leaving the trio dead and 10 others injured on the spot.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Roumari Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Due to poor transportation and the village’s isolated location—surrounded by the Jinjiram and Kalo rivers—law enforcement reportedly struggled to reach the scene promptly.
Confirming the matter, Roumari Police Station officer-in-charge Lutfor Rahman said that additional police personnel were deployed in the area to avert any kind of untoward situation.
Police, however, arrested a person for his alleged involvement in the incident, the OC said, adding that legal action would be taken against those found involved.
