The driver of a covered van and his helper were killed in a road crash while a policeman was killed being hit by a wrecker during rescue operation at the accident site at Syedpur in Chauddagram upazila on Monday.
The deceased were identified as ASI Akhter Hossain, covered van driver Fahad, 30, hailed from Shenbag in Noakhali and helper Sumon, 28, hailed from Chandganj in Laxmipur.
Abul Kalam Azad, Officer-in-Charge of Miabazar Highway Police Camp, said a covered van got overturned being hit by another covered van around 5 am, leaving Fahad and Sumon dead on the spot.
Later, ASI Akhter rushed to the spot to conduct rescue operation and when he was standing beside the police pick up van a speedy wrecker hit the vehicle, leaving Akther injured.
Akhter was taken to Chouddagram Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
Police recovered the bodies and seized the covered vans and the wrecker.
