Three friends-Majedur Rahman Mohan, Raju Sarker and Abu Sayed Kakon of the frontier village Sindurata under the Sharisabari upazila of Jamalpur district have achieved remarkable success by cultivating Jujube (Kul) and Lemon in the first year of their effort.

All the three friends are highly educated. Getting no job, they took the lease of ten bighas of land and started an agriculture farm named Jamuna Four Star Agro Farm on the land.

The activities of the farm started in October 2022. In the first stage, they planted 1,070 saplings of Jujube of Australian Ball Beauty, Bharat Ball Beauty, BAU Kul and the local sour-sweet Jujube varieties. Moreover, they planted 500 trees of Lemon of China Seedless-3 all-season variety around their orchard. Locally produced fertiliser made from cow dung manure was applied to the soil. Within 12 months of the planting of the trees, there was a bumper production of jujube and Lemon in all trees of the orchard.

The Jujube looks like Apples have already been plucked and sold. The fruit being sweet and attractive in colour, they sold the Jujube at Taka 4,000 per maund. They are expecting to sell nearly 300 maunds of Jujube from the orchard this year from where they are expecting to earn Taka 12 lakh to 14 lakh in the first year. At the same time, they are also selling the all-season Lemon from their orchard. They are expecting to sell this lemon around the year.

Rony Ahammed and Shipu Maruf were visiting the orchard recently. They said it was almost unbelievable that such an excellent Jujube and Lemon orchard had been created amid the remote charland.

The entrepreneurs of the orchard Mohan, Raju and Kakon informed, we three friends had built this mixed orchard on 10 bighas of land. We have used bio-fertiliser in the soil and we got an excellent production of Jujube and Lemon. In the first year, we are expecting to sell Jujube and Lemon amounting to Taka 12 lakh to 14 lakh. Following our success, we have also taken steps to increase the amount of land and cultivate Jujube and Lemon there. If educated youths like us follow our examples by not sitting idle for job, they would also turn self-reliant.
