Three detained with 18 kgs of cannabis in Sonaimuri

Police have arrested three persons in a raid in Sonaimuri municipal area of Noakhali. At that time, 18 kg of cannabis in 9 packets was seized from two plastic drums in the car with them.

The detainees were sent to jail through a judicial court on Monday morning following their arrest. Earlier on Sunday evening, they were detained from Kalabagan area of Comilla-Noakhali regional highway of Sonaimuri municipality. 

The detainees are Nazrul Islam, 34, son of Nurul Haque of Charua village on the east side of Mandbagh Bazar in Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria district, Abbas Uddin, 55, son of Abdul Hai of the same village and Zakir Hossain, 40, son ofAbdul Munaf.

According to the police, the police took position on the Comilla-Noakhali regional highway on the basis of the news that a large consignment of drugs was coming to Noakhali by car from Comilla. When the vehicle reached Kalabagan area of Sonaimuri municipality in the evening, the police stopped it. 

At that time, the three persons in the pickup van sensed the presence of the police and tried to flee, but the police arrested them. They later seized nine large packets of marijuana from two large plastic drums in the car. Each packet contains 2 kg and a total of 18 kg of cannabis.

Sonaimuri Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Harun Aur Rashid confirmed the matter and said that a case has been filed against the arrested drug dealers under the Narcotics Control Act. They were sent to the district jail through the judicial court on Monday morning.
