Platforms Gallery is set to showcase Bangladeshi talent at the prestigious Tokyo International Art Fair, taking place on November 29 and 30. Three Bangladeshi artists—Auntora Mehrukh Azad, Fakhrul Islam Mazumder Shakil, and Tariqul Islam Herok—will represent the country on this global platform, marking the gallery’s debut at the event.
Rayana Hossain, founder and managing director of ISHO and Platforms Gallery, leads this initiative with a mission to elevate Bangladeshi art on the international stage. “Our artists have equal potential to compete globally, but they need more exposure,” Rayana said. Platforms Gallery has been instrumental in creating opportunities for Bangladeshi artists, including international art fairs, residency programs, and multidisciplinary collaborations.
Highlighting the work of the participating artists, Auntora Mehrukh Azad, an MFA graduate from the University of Dhaka, explores climate-induced challenges in her art. Her solo exhibition, Solastalgia: Fragments of a Fading Horizon, recently addressed environmental issues and rural-urban contrasts. Her works have been featured at the Dhaka Art Summit and other global exhibitions, earning a place in renowned collections like the Samdani Art Foundation and Imago Mundi.
Fakhrul Islam Mazumder, a printmaking artist from Cumilla, has gained international acclaim through exhibitions in South Korea and the Asian Art Biennale. Tariqul Islam Herok, known for his focus on mythical narratives and folk tales, has won prestigious awards, including the Zainul Abedin Gold Medal.
Platforms Gallery aims to further amplify Bangladeshi art by organizing solo exhibitions, biennales, and international collaborations. Rayana envisions a future where Bangladeshi artists receive widespread global recognition and opportunities to showcase their unique talents.
