Thousands join AL Bijoy Rally in city

City streets were flooded with Awami League (AL) leaders and supporters on Tuesday as the ruling party brought out its Bijoy Rally (victory procession) in the capital marking the Victory Day 2023.

All roads led to Suhrawardy Udyan before starting the 'Bijoy rally' towards Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi-32 as AL leaders and supporters thronged the Udyan premises, wherein the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered on December 16 in 1971, with processions from different areas of the city to join the victory procession.

Dhaka city north and south units of AL jointly organized the procession to mark the Victory Day-2023 while the Suhrawardy Udyan premises turned into a human sea with the presence of thousands of people from all walks of life. 

After parading different city thoroughfares, the procession ended reaching Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi-32. BSS adds: Before starting the procession, a short rally was organized in front of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) adjacent to the Suhrawardy Udyan while AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader addressed the rally and inaugurated the procession.

AL Joint General Secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Dhaka South City Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, AL Central Working Committee Member Sanjida Khanam, Jubo League Chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Swechchhasebak League president Gazi Mesbaul Hossain Shachchu, Dhaka City South AL General Secretary Humayun Kabir, Dhaka-10 constituency AL nominee actor Ferdous Ahmed and Dhaka-16 seat's AL nominee Ilias Uddin Mollah spoke at the inaugural function.

Besides, AL Presidium Member Dr Abdur Razzaque, organizing secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, Afzal Hossain and Mirza Azam, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Dhaka North City Mayor Atiqul Islam and Dhaka City North AL President Sheikh Fazlur Rahman were present at the function, among others.

Speaking at the rally, AL leaders vowed to ensure the party's victory in the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) elections slated for January 7, 2024 foiling all domestic and foreign conspiracies. 

The city streets were abuzz with leaders and activists of AL and its affiliated organizations who thronged the Suhrawardy Udyan premises with national and party flags, posters and placards with pictures of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina, Sajeeb Wazed Joy to join the procession.

During the procession, they were chanting different slogans marking the Victory Day and the January 7 national election while the city turned into red and green as they were attired in red-green t-shirts, caps and sarees and carrying replicas of boat, festoons and banners.

In the procession, symbol of boat and dummies of rifles, cannons and tanks were exhibited throughout the rally, which drew extra attention of common people. Historic speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 7 in 1971 and patriotic songs were played through microphones used in different trucks joined the procession.

Leaders and activists of Awami Jubo League, Chhatra League, Krishak League, Tanti League, Krishak League, Jubo Mahila League, Jatiya Sramik League and Mahila Awami League attended the rally with much enthusiasm.
