Popular singer Moushumi Akter Salma is also the chairman of Safia Foundation. The foundation has been working for the distressed and helpless people in this time of coronavirus. A Mizan writes about various issues talking to Salma.

How are you spending your time?

I am always at home giving time to my family. Since I have a little girl, I give her time, then I have to cook and I also have regularly contact the members and volunteers of the Safia Foundation from home. I am planning on how to provide relief to more distressed people. I have been in quarantine for 28 days. I don’t like boring life. So I am trying to be busy in various activities.

Did you go out since this outbreak started?

While in quarantine, I went out a number of days to distribute relief to the distressed and helpless people from my Safia Foundation. When I went out, I made sure to take precautions. I along with my husband wanted to deliver the materials by our own hands to the distressed.

Tell us about the Safia Foundation -

I am the chairman of Safia Foundation. Some of our volunteers and members, including my husband, started the foundation last year. Our commitment since then has been to work regularly for the distressed and helpless people. Since our country and the whole world is in lockdown due to coronavirus. So Safia Foundation stands by the side of many helpless people. We are regularly providing food and aid to those who are  needy people.

What is your message to everyone?

I will tell everyone one thing, no one leave the house unless absolutely necessary at this time because at this time we are fighting a life and death battle. We must win this war. I have never learned for Bangalee to lose, we have always won. I don't think we will lose this time either. We must continue to fight against this corona. I would like to request the rich people of society to take care of their neighbors so that no one has to go out of the house out of starvation. Everyone come forward. Now is not the time to be good individually, now is the time to keep trying to be good together.

You have been at home for long. Are you suffering frustration?

I often get frustrated. This is because I have gone out of home several times for foundation work. I have a daughter and every time I go out I become anxious about her and tensed. I feel afraid to go close to my daughter. Still I try to be strong mentally. I think there is peace in dying for service to people.

All work has stopped. Are you missing work in this situation?

I miss my work very much. Music is my passion and profession. It is normal for me to work with music. But suddenly the world seemed to come to a stop. Our normal way of living stopped. This is causing a lot of trouble. I am still trying to adapt myself.

Do you have regular contact with people from the media?

At this moment you can understand that everyone is in home quarantine. Now everyone is communicating over cell phone or messenger.

What do you want to do first at the end of the coronavirus period?

I miss the nature and the open sky. Everyone is living in a difficult time. I want to take a deep breath when this time is over. I want to see the world alive again.
