A madrasa student succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday after he was beaten to death at Monirampur upazila in Jashore staging a drama of mobile phone theft.
The deceased was identified as Mamun Hasan, 22, son Moshiar Gazi of the upazila.
Victim’s father filed a case with Monirampur Police Station in this connection on Wednesday night mentioning the names of 12 people along with five to six unidentified others. Police arrested three accused on the same night.
The arrestees were identified as Md. Lavlu, 25, son of Mahmud Hossain, Altaf Hossain, 30, son of Mizanur Gazi and Sohag Hossain, 19, son of Yusuf Hossain. All of them are residents of Khojalipur village under Monirampur upazila.
Mamun died while undergoing treatment at Monirampur Upazila Health Complex on Wednesday afternoon. His family alleged that he was beaten with his hands and feet tied on Tuesday night. He was a second year student of Monirampur Alia Madrasa.
Monirampur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sikder Matiar Rahman said, “A case was registered and three accused were arrested in this regard. An operation is underway to arrest the other accused. Mamun's body was sent to the morgue of the 250-bed General Hospital in Jashore on Thursday morning for autopsy. The arrested accused have been sent to court.”
