Renowned theatre troupe Theatre is set to stage its 41st production, Baramkhana, a powerful play inspired by the life and philosophy of mystic bard Lalon Shah. The performance will be held at 7 pm on July 19 at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of the Bangladesh Mohila Samity(BMS).

Written by Pantha Shahriar and directed by Tropa Majumdar, the play draws from Sunil Gangopadhyay’s acclaimed novel Moner Manush. It explores the essence of Lalon’s akhra—his unique space for spiritual reflection, music, and resistance to social norms.

The cast includes a mix of veteran and emerging artistes such as Ramendu Majumdar, Tropa Majumdar, Tanzum Ara Palli, Tamanna Islam, Kausar Rajib, Abdullah Al Mamun Jewel, Rashedul Awal Shawon, Ismat Ara, Robin Basak, and Noor-e-Khoda Masuk Siddiqui.

The musical score, featuring compositions by Kartik, Bishwajit Bairagi, Tanmoy Ghosh, and others, blends traditional Baul influences with modern theatrical soundscapes.

Shaiful Islam's set and lighting design creates a poetic and grounded atmosphere, while costumes by Wahida Mallika Jolly reflect the cultural period. Choreography by Saidur Rahman Lipon adds expressive physicality to the performance. The production is managed by Khurshid Alam.

Baramkhana continues Theatre’s tradition of presenting socially relevant and spiritually engaging performances that reflect Bangladesh’s cultural heritage.
