BNP Secretary General Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other BNP leaders have been saying for a long time that their chairperson Khaleda Zia was very sick and her health condition was deteriorating alarmingly since imprisonment. On Saturday noon, she was taken to the hospital’s dental unit from her cabin for checkup by highly qualified physicians, but no serious ailment was found.

Hence the claim that Khaleda Zia was in critical condition is quite misleading. In the picture, she looks healthy and gorgeous, sitting straight in the chair. In no way, she gives the impression that she is suffering from any kind of grave illness. Hospital sources said she received dental care for uneven teeth in her mouth before being taken back to her cabin after an hour.

The university Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery chairman Quazi Billur Rahman told the media that Khaleda Zia was given treatment in her teeth in the right jaw.
“The teeth became sharp and uneven. We have treated it,” the professor said. Khaleda was given dental care at the department in June for fungal infection in the mouth caused by uneven teeth.

The university hospital additional director Nazmul Karim Manik told the media that the overall health condition of Khaleda Zia was ‘good’. “Her health condition is good and stable…She is doing well,” he said, replying to a question about her health condition. “She only suffered from uneven teeth which are common for elderly people,” Nazmul said.

BNP on Friday expressed the party’s concern over the health condition of the party chairperson Khaleda Zia and demanded that her treatment be arranged at home or abroad as per her desire. The party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, addressing a press briefing in the party chairperson’s office at Gulshan in Dhaka, also alleged that it was not possible to give her proper treatment at BSMMU.

He said that Khaleda had been suffering from tongue ulcer and had lost weight of about four kilograms in past one week. Khaleda Zia was shifted to the university hospital on April 1 for treatment from the abandoned Central Jail in the Old Town of Dhaka.
