Police arrested four individuals, including Akhil Chandra Roy, Chairman of Dholarhat Union Parishad in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, in connection with multiple cases, including a violent attack on students and a murder case filed in Dhaka’s Jatrabari Police Station.
Akhil Chandra Roy was detained on Wednesday afternoon from his fertiliser and pesticide shop at Dholarhat Bazaar, confirmed Ruhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.K.M. Nazmul Kader.
Others arrested include businessman Shaherul Islam and UP member Kaminikumar Roy. According to police, Akhil had been evading arrest for some time, and a targeted operation led to his capture around 12:30pm. He was first taken to Ruhia Police Station and later transferred to Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station.
OC Saroware Alam Khan of Sadar Police stated that Akhil would be produced before court shortly.
He also confirmed that multiple cases, including charges under the Explosives Act, are pending against the UP chairman.
