Police have arrested the prime suspect in a sensational case over the murder of schoolgirl Sraboni Rani in Sadar upazila of Thakurgaon on Thursday. The arrestee, Shohag Barmon, was a step uncle of the deceased, hailed from Shingia Sarkerpara village under Salondar union of Sadar upazila of the district.
The deceased Sraboni Rani is the daughter of Vobesh Roy, hailed from the Asrompara area under Akcha union of Sadar upazila. She was the tenth grader of Thakurgaon CM Ayub Girls High School. In a press briefing, Additional Police Super (Sadar Circle) Abu Taher Mohammad Abdullah said, Sraboni Rani had a secret affair with her step uncle Shohag Barmon. Last month, Sraboni got married with Shohag by wearing vermilion in a temple.
After marriage, Shohag killed the school student for misunderstanding over phone talk. The suspect reportedly confessed to the murder following a primary interrogation, police said. At that time, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station Tanvirul Islam, OC (Investigation) Golam Mortuja along with other officials were also present.
However, the 15-year-old girl was found dead in her own residence with her throat slit in Paltan of Akcha union on Wednesday night. Meanwhile on Thursday, CM Ayub Girls High School students formed a human chain demanding the maximum punishment of the reported killer.
