A human chain program was held in Thakurgaon demanding the establishment of a medical college, an Export Processing Zone (EPZ), a public university, and the reopening of the closed airport.

This human chain was organized on Tuesday (October 28) at 11 AM at Thakurgaon Chowrasta by a voluntary organization called the Nagarik Oikya Forum. Participants included students from various educational institutions, representatives of political and social organizations, businesspeople, professionals, and people from various classes and professions.

At that time, speeches were given by, among others, District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Paigam Ali, and journalist Vishal Rahman.

The speakers said that Thakurgaon, a district in the neglected northern region of the country, has been lagging in development for a long time. Due to the lack of quality healthcare, improved transportation systems, and opportunities for higher education, the people here are suffering in various ways.

They further said that due to the lack of modern medical facilities in the district, many patients are forced to travel to distant districts for better treatment—and due to the poor state of the transportation system, many die on the way.

On the other hand, due to the lack of employment opportunities, thousands of young people are suffering from unemployment, and many are turning to drugs.

Based on the geographical context, the speakers demanded a public university for education, an EPZ for economic development, a hospital for improved medical treatment, and the reopening of the abandoned airport to facilitate easier communication.
