Thakurgaon journo sued in ICT act for Facebook post

Thakurgaon district correspondent of Dainik Adhikar Al Mamun has been sued under the ICT Act for giving status on Facebook criticizing the administration.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Baliadangi Police Station Mohammad Zahurul Islam on Wednesday (April 15) night filed the case as a plaintiff. In the complaint filed SI Zahurul Islam he said that Al Mamun that criticized the administration in a Facebook status. The administration has been defamed, which can cause disharmony in society. The law and order situation may also deteriorate. 

According to the case filed by the police, the status that Mamun put up on his Facebook was intentionally offensive, providing false and defamatory information. It can lead to deterioration of the law and order, creating enmity, hatred and envy among the various communities of society. The image of the government, including the police administration, has been damaged.

Al Mamun, a journalist, said, “As a citizen of this country, I have conveyed the truth through my status on Facebook. And to tell the truth, I did not think I would be sued for something like this. When the administration notified me about it I deleted the status.”

Reporters working in the district said police superintendent Md Moniruzzaman was contacted on the matter multiple times. Nevertheless, the case has been filed. Baliadangi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Habibul Haque Prodhan confirmed the authenticity of the case.
