Thakurgaon district plunged in deep cold

The intensity of winter has increased due to fog at night, and no sun during the day. The people of Thakurgaon district have been suffering from severe cold for a week now. Low-income group of  people are living in terrible condition, as there is no work in this cold.

The face of the sun was not seen in Thakurgaon in the past few days. At night, the dew is raining with the sound of drizzle. Bazar and roads are deserted within 8 to 9 Pm at night. Dense fog is interrupting traffic so; the vehicles are seen moving with their headlights on even during the day.

In this extreme winter, low-income people of the district are suffering the most. These poor and helpless people are trying to abate the cold by making bush fire due to lack of warm clothes. Thakurgaon district administration received 41 thousand blankets from the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, but these blankets have not reached the village level yet.

Some of the UP Chairmen, who are unwilling to disclose their names, said that the district administration has given only 260 pcs of blankets to them for distributing. They also questioned, where did the rest of the blankets go.

However, an administration official said blankets were also given to every orphanage in the district and social organizations. In addition, the DC and UNOs also distributed blankets among the poor in different areas. Meanwhile, Baliadangi Upazila Chairman Aslam Jewel did not get any blankets for distributing even after asking the UNO for blankets. Children and elders are suffering from pneumonia and diarrhea due to  severe cold and are being hospitalized. 

Child Consultant of Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital Dr Shahjahan Newaz said, “A huge number of children are being admitted to the hospital this winter. Our doctors and nurses are facing great troubles to manage this huge crowd of patients.”
