The flag carrier Thai Airways has decided to cut frequencies to Dhaka from February-end to most of March over concerns regarding the coronavirus outbreak which has killed over 2000 people in China. Flight TG339 will be cancelled from February 25 to most of March while flight TG340 will be cancelled from February 26 till most of March, report agencies.

The carrier is going to cancel some flights to eight other countries during this period following a fall in demand caused by the coronavirus epidemic originating from Wuhan in China. Besides Bangladesh, the suspension of flights of the airline covers destinations in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Philippines and the United Arab Emirates.

Nond Kalinta, Vice President, Sales Department, THAI claimed that passengers are avoiding to travel after COVID-19 broke out. Hence it is essential for the airline to adjust flights to match commercial demand. The novel coronavirus outbreak has so far claimed more than 2500 lives in China and infected more than 76,000 people.

Fears are mounting over the rise of new cases and fatalities outside China from COVID-19 as the World Health Organisation (WHO) warned of a shrinking window to stem the spread of the deadly disease. The warning came as the first European died from the virus strain, which has now spread to over 25 countries and caused over a dozen deaths outside China.
