Terrorism has no room in Islam: Speakers

Speakers at a seminar have said that those who have true knowledge of Islam can never be involved in militancy.

They also urged Islamic clerics and Imams to play vital role in creating awareness against militancy and terrorism in the country. 

The seminar was jointly organized by the Islamic Foundation and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on the role of Islamic scholars in preventing violence and extremism at the Islamic Foundation Auditorium in city’s Agargaon on Tuesday.

State Minister for Religion Md Faridul Haque Khan attended the seminar as the chief guest while  secretary to the Ministry of Religion Md Nurul Islam and Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Religion Md Altaf Hossain Chowdhury were present as special guests .

Md Monirul Islam, Additional Commissioner of Police of  DMP, who is also the head of the  CTTC, participated in the seminar as the keynote speaker. 

Anis Mahmud, Director General of Islamic Foundation presided over the seminar. Islamic scholars, Khatib of different mosques, Imams, Muazzins and Madrasa teachers were present as participants in the seminar.

Speaking at the seminar, state minister Md Faridul Haque Khan said, "You ( Imams) are helping the Islamic Foundation in the greatest interest of the country and the nation. The way you can explain anything no one else can explain it like you.”

He said terrorism has no place in Islam. During the Jumma prayers, the imams of the mosques should create awareness among the devout Muslims against terrorism and militancy.

Secretary of the Ministry of Religion Md. Nurul Islam said, "Everyone comes to you for any need. Rural people have a close relationship with you. They want honest advice from you. You have to come forward so that no one can confuse our youths.”

As the keynote speaker, Additional Commissioner Md. Monirul Islam said that militancy cannot be suppressed just by enforcing law and order.

He added that hard approach as well as soft approach should be applied.  This seminar is part of creating awareness in the society against this terrorism.

Islamic scholars, ulama, imams have an effective role in suppressing militancy. You have to fulfill the main responsibility of showing the right path without confusing the nation, he stated.

He said that some miscreants of the society want to spread militancy and terrorism by misinterpreting religion for their own benefit. He who has the true teachings of Islam can never be involved in militancy.
