Temperature may decrease further

Another cold wave is feared across the country as it rained in several parts of the country on Tuesday and the following day. After the rain, day and night temperatures are likely to drop significantly leading to severe cold.

Even at the end of the Bengali month ‘Poush’, not much cold has been felt in the ongoing winter season. Although there is a mild cold wave in some parts of the country, there is not much of an impact of the winter in the capital Dhaka.

It rained in Dhaka, Mymensingh, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna till Wednesday morning. The meteorological department has forecasted that rain may continue in different parts of the country.

The impact of winter has dropped with rising temperatures, however, that is likely to change.

On Wednesday morning, the lowest temperature in the country was recorded 14 degrees Celsius in Feni while the country's lowest temperature was recorded 11.9 degrees Celsius at Tentulia in Panchagarh on Tuesday morning. The minimum temperature in Dhaka rose from 17.3 degrees Celsius to 18.4 degrees Celsius in one day.

The highest rainfall 9 mm was recorded at this time in Chuadanga. 1 mm of rain was recorded in Dhaka. Besides, 7 mm of rain was experienced in Tangail, 1 mm in Faridpur, 1 mm in Sylhet, 1 mm in Srimangal, 1 mm in Rajshahi, 7 mm in Ishwardi, 8 mm in Satkhira, 2 mm in Jessore and 8 mm in Kumarkhali.

Meteorologist Abul Kalam told the Bangladesh Post that in the next 24 hours from 9 am Wednesday, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and some parts of Sylhet division and a couple of places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions may experience rainfall. There may be light to moderate fog all over the country.

“At this time, the night temperature may decrease by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius across the country. The daytime temperature could drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius,” he said.

According to the Meteorological Department, there is an increase in western light pressure located in the foothills of the Himalayan region of West Bengal and adjoining areas. The normal seasonal light pressure is located in the South Bay, extending to the north-east Bay of Bengal.
