The water of all the rivers of the country except the Surma is rising. Water is flowing over the danger line at different points of Teesta, Padma and Jamuna rivers.
As a result, the ongoing flood situation in the northern and central parts of the country may worsen.
The Bangladesh Water Development Board’s flood forecasting and warning center’s report on rainfall and river situation raised concerns on Thursday.
It is said that the water of all the major rivers of the country except the Surma is rising. The water level may continue to rise for the next 24 hours.
The Teesta River is expected to rise further in the next 24 hours, the report said, adding that the flood situation in the lower reaches of the northern Teesta Basin could worsen.
The report also said that the flood situation in the lower parts of Rajbari and Faridpur districts in the central part of the country could worsen in the next 48 hours.
It further said that in the next 24 hours, the danger level could cross Mathura and Aricha points of the Jamuna River and Sureshwar Point of the Padma River.
According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, the water of the three rivers is flowing over the danger line.
The water of the Padma River is flowing over 26 cm of Goalanda Point danger zone of Rajbari.
On the other hand, the water of the Gorai River is flowing at Kamarkhali point 11 cm above the danger level.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the light pressure in Orissa and nearby areas of India has become insignificant and has merged with the monsoon wind axis. Monsoon winds are active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong in North Bay.
Meteorologist Abdur Rahman Khan said that, “In most parts of Khulna, Barisal and Chattogram divisions in the next 24 hours from 6 am on Thursday there may be light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusts in many parts of Dhaka, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and some parts of Rajshahi division. There may also be moderate to heavy rains in some parts of the country.”
