Teenage girl handed over to Indian police

Police handed over a teenage girl to the Indian Police through Benapole check-post after one and half year. The girl fled from India and illegally entered to Bangladesh for her lover.

She was officially handed over to the Indian police by an NGO Justice and Care in the presence of the two countries' immigration police, BGB and BSF.

The teenager is Krishna Das, 18, daughter of Kalipodo Das of Kokata city. Benapole Police Immigration OC Ahsan Habib said the girl came to Bangladesh illegally a year and a half ago after having an affair with a youth Akbar Mollah of Bagerhat district town. Later, she got married with Akbar.

After receiving the news, the girl’s father filed a kidnapping case against Akbar with the Kolkata Police Station.

After the case, the Indian police reported the matter to the Bangladesh Police Headquarters. Later, police rescued the girl from Akbar's house and kept her in the custody of a social service organization called Bagerhat Safe Housing. The girl was sent back to her family in India under the care of Justice and Care.

Officials of NGOs including Benapole Immigration (OC) Ahsan Habib and Subedar Ashraf Ali of 49 BGB ICP camp were present during the handover.
