A Mahogany tree has been uprooted due to a storm and fallen on the building of an Alim Madrasa in Jamalpur's Dewanganj.
Teachers and guardians of the institution are worried over the incident. Students will have to do classes in fear of accident if the tree is not cut off soon.
The traditional Bagharchar Islamia Senior Alim Madrasa at Dangdhara Union No. 1 under Dewanganj Upazila of Jamalpur was established in 1975. There are several other Mahogany trees adjacent to the madrasa. A tin-shed room of the madrasa was damaged badly in a storm recently, the madrasa authorities said.
The uprooted Mahogany tree is in a very risky condition. It posed risk of any big accident. The students, guardians and teachers of the madrasa want to get rid of this jeopardy. Several students of the madrasa said that they fear to do classes inside the madrasa. The uprooted large tree can collapse on them any time during class time, they feared.
Locals said the madrasa building was damaged badly as the tree uprooted and fell on the building. The tree should be cut off and remove from the place soon, they added. It has become a problem for the students as well as for the locals, they further said.
Principal of the madrasa, Abul Kalam Azad, said, “The tree needs to be cut off following proper rules as soon as possible. Otherwise, any unwanted incident may occur any time.” He also said, “I have already informed the matter to Dewanganj Upazila Secondary Education Office. The matter was also informed to the local UP Chairman, Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer.”
Dewanganj Upazila Academic Supervisor Sajal Chandra Bhadra said, “I was informed about the uprooted tree and damaged madrasa. Necessary steps will be taken to cut off the tree following the government rules.”
