Teacher released from detention upon student protest in Sylhet

Debabrata Chowdhury, an English teacher of MC Academy school and college of Golapganj upazila in Sylhet was released from police custody on the protest of the academy students in Sylhet on Thursday.

Debabrata was detained on Wednesday night by Golapganj model police station in a case of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) filed under Banani police station in the capital. On Thursday morning at around 10am, the academy students made blockade on Sylhet-Zakiganj road in front of the concerned police station protesting the detention the teacher.  Later, he was released from the custody on protest. 

Debabrata claimed that he didn’t know anything about this case and he was wrongfully detained by police. 

The police station in-charge Md. Rafiqul Islam told Bangladesh Post, a teacher was detained on a forgery case filed by BTRC under Banani police station. 

The academy students on Thursday morning came out on road protested the detention of their teacher. Later BTRC executive on talk with the higher authority took him released from the custody.
