A court in Rangamati on Tuesday sentenced a teacher to life term imprisonment for raping a female student in Longadu Upazila of the district in 2020. Rangamati Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge AM Zulfikar Hayat pronounced the verdict this afternoon.
The convict is Abdur Rahim, headmaster of Karlyachhari R S High School in the area.
The court also fined him Taka 10 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer more three years rigorous imprisonment.According to the details of the case, on September 25, 2020, the accused forcibly raped the victim by threatening in the hostel of Karlyachari R S High School.
After the rape, the accused threatened the victim not to tell anyone about the incident. On September 27, 2020, when his physical condition deteriorated, the victim informed her mother. On October 5, 2020, the victim's mother filed a case with the Longadu police station.
The investigation officer in the case submitted a charge-sheet against Abdur Rahim.
After examining the record and witnesses, the court found him guilty.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Saiful Islam Ovi of the Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal confirmed the matter.
