TCL takes on Samsung, brings NXTFrame TV

Published : 09 Aug 2024 10:37 PM

Samsung’s Frame TV, which revolutionised home aesthetics by blending TVs with art, is now facing competition from several new players. TCL has just unveiled its 4K QLED NXTFrame TV, designed to offer a similar canvas-like experience with features tailored for art lovers. The NXTFrame boasts a magnetic wooden frame, flush-to-wall mounting, an "ultra matte" display, and various gallery modes for showcasing images.

TCL’s new model follows in the footsteps of other "Art TVs" like Hisense’s CanvasTV and LG’s Posé and Easel series, which aim to integrate TV screens seamlessly into home décor.

Third-party accessories have also emerged to enhance the

aesthetic appeal of TVs, but TCL’s NXTFrame is one of the first all-in-one solutions to rival Samsung’s offering directly.

Available in four sizes—55 inches ($1,500), 65 inches ($2,000), 75 inches ($2,500), and a forthcoming 85 inches ($4,000)—the NXTFrame’s pricing aligns closely with Samsung’s latest models, though Samsung’s 55-inch variant is slightly more affordable at $1,300.

For those seeking premium features, TCL also offers the NXTFrame Pro series starting at $2,000, which includes a Bang & Olufsen sound system.

Key features of the NXTFrame include a 144Hz variable refresh rate, support for HDR10, HDR10 Plus, Dolby Atmos, and AMD FreeSync Premium. It also offers a movable floor stand for $699.99, echoing Samsung’s Studio Stand, and a customisable art library with AI-driven options for personalised photo displays.

Despite its advantages, the NXTFrame currently comes in only one light wood option for its magnetic frame, unlike competitors who offer a wider range of styles. However, as the trend for art-focused TVs grows, it’s likely we’ll see more brands and accessories entering the market to cater to this aesthetic revolution.
