Because of steep rise in prices of onions, the government has initiated steps for sale of onions at Tk 45 per kg through TCB. The initiative has been taken after the prices of onions touched Tk 250 per kg in the market.

In this backdrop, the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started sale of onion in open market for the first time in Chuadanga.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chuadanga Nazrul Islam Sarker inaugurated the sale of onion on the Town Football ground in Chuadanga on Tuesday.

Hearing that onion would be sold at fair price, hundreds of people had gathered there.

Sources said that Kakoy Traders would provide the onion at government fixed rate to help people buy this commodity at a fair price. The district administration will supervise the sale activities.

Law enforces are helping the TCB van to sell the onions in a disciplined way with proper queue to avoid rush of the buyers.

The lower and middle class dwellers of the district town became very happy to get the onion in a comparatively cheap price. The buyers termed the government initiative of selling onions at Taka 45 per kg through the TCB as a time-befitting step and hoped that the price of the essential commodity would become normal soon.
