It is encourahing to note that the government has decided to offer a 5 percent corporate tax waiver of organisations that will create jobs for third gender persons.

According to a report published in this daily on Monday, if an organisation employs 10 per cent of its total employees or more than 100 third gender persons then the employer would get 75 per cent tax rebate from the salary paid to them or 5 percent of payable tax, whichever is less. We applaud the government's move to provide the tax waiver on condition of hiring third gender people.

Government is commited to safeguard the rights of the transgender people. This initiative has heaped praise from people of all strata and it will be a huge step to eliminate the discrimination that the transgender people face everywhere. It will be a milestone to move forward for social inclusion of the transgender community.

It will also help break the third gender stigma. If more of the transgender people work in corporate sectors, it will not only enhance their socio-economic aspect but will also augment their engagement in productive activities of the country.

Previously many proposals were made in support of the transgender community but most of them have not been properly implemented. Therefore, the government needs to strictly monitor so that this laudable initiative gets implemented properly.

This initiative should take place at a much bigger scale as members of the transgender community also need to enhance their skills to get hired.
