Information technology has been disseminating in rural villages of the country like many developed countries. The people, especially, the women are the beneficiaries through the courtyard meeting conducted by the information service officers, widely known as “Tathya Apa”.
It has been providing massive awareness on access to information, maternal and child health and their rights, gender and other issues. It has been also helping establish the rights of the people staying in remote villages.
A number of women of Trilochanpur village said they were not aware enough about the rights of a woman and children and their role in the family and society. They have been learning the existing law of the country, especially for women and children.
They are also learning how to make solutions of the problems within the existing law. The women who are almost educated, are provided information about any job in private and public institutions through Tathya Apa.
Upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) office sources said the Tathya Apa programme has been implemented jointly by Women Affairs Ministry and Jataiya Mahila Sangstha for the grass route people in second phase.Information service assistant Papia Paul said they have been connecting the experts for their valuable opinion, primary health care, legal aid and other available government services, agriculture, e-learning, e-commerce etc. through internet at the doorsteps of the rural women video conferencing.
They have been also proving results of different examinations, job opportunity circular.’ The Tathya Apa team have been checking diabetes, blood pressure and measuring the weight free of cost.
Upazila information service officer (UISO) locally known as Tathya Apa at Kaliganj Prianka Chakroborty when contacted, said the women empowerment activities as thrown by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was introduced in 2012 to provide information among the under privileged remoter women community.
They had conducted court yard meeting with the rural women in a number of villages in Sundarpur-Durgapur, Jamal, Simla-Rokanpur, Niamatpur, Roygram, Maliat and Trilochanpur unions where two of her colleagues have been assisting her ensure services in the remote areas, Prianka Chakroborty said.
UNO Subarna Rani Saha when contacted said that 50 per cent of population is women who have been contributing equally in society and nation development activities. Here the empowerment of the community is essential. Moreover, the women in the remote villages are under privileged and disadvantaged.
To bring them in mainstream development process, they should be given accurate information and capability development knowledge. The Tathya Apa programme has been helping to aware the women community for their overall development and regain their honour and dignity both in family and society gradually, Saha said.
