Taslima Nasrin’s monumental house being demolished, multi-storey building in progress

South Asia's famous writer Taslima Nasreen's residence, 'Vakash' on TN Roy Road in Amlapara of Mymensingh, is being demolished. She wrote her first poem while sitting in this house, her first book of poetry and spent her golden childhood in the yards of that house which is being demolished to build a multi-storey building.

On Thursday, her house was observed to be on the ground and demolished. A multi-storied building was being constructed in its place with colossal advertising signboards indicating a prominent developer behind the works.

The workers are said to have already completed the demolition of almost the entire house. According to them, a local person named Nayan made a written document for 3 lakh taka buying the brick, wood and rods of the household and that they are working to demolish the house under him for about a month.

Taslima Nasreen's nephew Safayet abir confirmed the matter and said the home belonged to their Grandfather late Dr Rajab Ali. After his death, the land was distributed among his heirs. In the front part of it is his father and uncle's place.

Safayet also said that the old house was divided according to the rules of land distribution, and new buildings are being demolished and constructed; it's their family affair, and that's it There is no legal problem.

It is known that recently, a Mymensingh poet Shamim Ashraf posted a video of the said house and wrote, this is where Taslima Nasreen spent her childhood and adolescence. According to him, beautiful homes can be compared to beautiful memories, which act like captive birds waiting to be released, in this case, demolished.

She posted the video with her verified Facebook account and associated various childhood and adolescence memories, which again brought the house named Avakash into the discussion.
