Tariqul Islam, a fourth year student of Pali and Buddhist Studies department and Omar Faruque, student of fourth year of Management jointly won the champions trophy in the Inter-hall Annula Sports of Surja Sen Hall of Dhaka University on Wednesday.
Mohammad Reajul Isalm, student of political Science became runner up in the competition.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal inaugurated the competition as the chief guest at the University central playground when Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, treasurer of the university distributed prizes among the winners on same day.
The Vice-chancellor in his speech told that sports is very important for the students - “To be disciplined, physically sound and be attentive in their study students should take part in sports.”
“Students, who have engagement with sports and other curriculums side by side of their academic, could establish themselves as skilled and eligible persons in the society. We have have been organising the sports for the students every year with the object to produce a strong and disciplined generation, who will lead the country in future to build a ‘Smart Bangladesh’,” said Dr. Maksud.
Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed Treasurer of the University urged the student to participate in sports and culture activities side by side their academic study.
Presided over by Professor Dr. Jakir Hossain Bhuiyan, Provost of the Surja Sen Hall, Professor Dr Emran Kabir Chowdhury, president of the Athletics committee of Dhaka University, Professor Dr Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, president of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association, M. Shahjahan Ali, director-in-charge of the Physical Institute of DU were present among others in the opening and closing ceremony.
