Tarash Free Day today

Tarash Free Day is being observed today. On December 13, 1971, Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj and its surrounding areas were freed from Pakistani invaders.

It is known that on November 11, 1971, in the Naogaon area of the upazila, a front war was organized by the freedom fighters against the Pak forces under the leadership of Palash Danga Youth Camp. Responding to the call of Bangaban­dhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, brave freedom fighter Gazi Abdul Latif Mirza formed an organization of freedom fighters named Palashdanga Youth Camp in the historical Naogaon Bazar area to free Tarash Upazila from invaders. About 630 freedom fighters from Sirajganj, Pabna, Natore and Bogra regions joined the 'Palash Danga Youth Camp' under the leadership of Abdul Latif Mirza. Later, on December 11, 1971, 630 brave freedom fighters of that organization engaged in combat with the Pakistani army from 7 am to 2 pm to free Tarash from the invaders. 150 Pak Army personnel were killed during the war. And two freedom fighters were injured. At the end of the war, 9 members of the Pak Invader Bahini, including Captain Salim, surrendered. On December 13, the freedom fighters celebrated the independence by declaring the area free from invaders.

According to the information of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, 150 soldiers of Pak Army were killed in that battle. Gazi Amjad Hossain Milon, Gazi Abdur Rahman, Gazi Saidur Rahman, Gazi Arshed Ali, Gazi Abdul Quddus, Gazi Nazem Uddin and many brave freedom fighters participated in that war.

Gazi Arshed Ali, Commander of Tarash Upazila Freedom Fighters Sangsad, said that on November 11, 1971, there was a frontal battle with Naogaon Pak Army. 

Later on December 13, the first national flag was hoisted in Tarash Upazila. In addition, with many efforts, the Naogaon War Memorial has been built in the historic Naogaon Bazar area where the war memorials are littered. Which stands proudly holding the crimson sun of freedom on its chest.
