Tapping potential of tourism stressed

All barriers on the way of tourism development will be removed, and through proper tourism branding, more foreign tourists will be attracted towards Bangladesh.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali said this while speaking as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of a three-day international expo titled ‘Bangladesh International Travel and Tourism Expo’ (BITT) organized by Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital on Wednesday. 

He said, “Despite having vast tourism potentials the country is not able to attract foreign tourists as was expected. We want to remove such barriers in the development of Tourism sector and through a proper branding of tourism we will bring more foreign tourists to our country.” 

“The present government has taken various steps to promote the tourism sector, accordingly our work is going on. Many countries do not have the sites as we have in our tourism. If all concerned work from their respective places to attract local and foreign tourists, it is possible to take this sector a long way,” he added.   Commenting on the need for a positive role of the media to save the national asset Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Civil Aviation and Tourism State Minister Mahbub Ali called on everyone to uphold the unique beauty potential of Bangladesh to develop the tourism industry.

The organizers said that this expo, which started today, will continue till December 3. In this event, airlines, hospitals, tourism boards, travel agencies, tour operators, hotels, resorts, from more than 15 countries including India, Malaysia, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, Oman, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Cruise liners, destination management companies and other travel and tourism service providers are participating.

 Organizers said the expo will create business connections and relationships between travel agents and tour operators. People of the country can know about global travel information, packages and air tickets.

Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman, ATAB President SN ManjurMorshed (Mahbub), Secretary General Abdus Salam Aref, Title Sponsor Air Astra Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Imran Asif, were also present at the inauguration ceremony. Co Sponsor US-Bangla Airlines General Manager (Public Relations) Kamrul Islam, ATAB Vice President Afsia Jannat Saleh, Joint Secretary General Mohammad Abdul Hamid Deputy Secretary General Golam Mahmud BhuyaManik, Finance Secretary AbdurRazzak and others were also present at the opening ceremony.
