The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Tangail is making remarkable progress in implementing 19 development projects under the 2023–24 fiscal year. With an estimated total budget of BDT 2,678.88 crore, works worth BDT 2,289.99 crore have already been executed, achieving an average physical progress rate of 82%. This success is largely attributed to the direct supervision and continuous monitoring of the Executive Engineer, Mohammad Kamruzzaman.

According to LGED sources, the projects cover a range of rural infrastructure development initiatives. Notable among them is the Priority Rural Infrastructure Development Project-3 (IRIDP-3), where 147 out of 172 schemes have been completed with 94% physical progress.

The Tangail Infrastructure Development Project (IRIDP-Tangail), worth BDT 531.23 crore, includes 737 schemes. Of these, 480 have been completed, 214 are ongoing, 9 were cancelled, and tenders have been invited for 34, with 79% physical progress.

Under the Mymensingh Region Rural Infrastructure Development Project (MRRIDP), 379 of 467 schemes have been completed. With BDT 507.28 crore already utilised, this project reports an 87% completion rate.

The Construction of Important Bridges on Rural Roads (CIBRR) project shows slower progress—only 2 of 13 schemes are complete, and 4 cancelled—achieving 52% physical progress out of a BDT 112.25 crore allocation.

The Rural Road Repair and Maintenance (GOBM) project is progressing well, with 70 of 86 schemes completed. It stands at 86% completion with an allocated BDT 620.07 crore.

The Upazila-Union-Village Bridge Construction (UHB) project, focusing on small-scale bridges under 100 metres, has reached 92% completion, spending BDT 84.52 crore.

The Dhaka Division Important Roads Project (DDIRDWSP) has achieved 90% physical progress, with 22 of 41 schemes completed under a BDT 190.38 crore budget.

Other projects include: Post-Cyclone Amphan Road Rehabilitation (CAFDRIR) – 70% complete (BDT 101.18 crore), Supporting Rural Bridges (SUPRB) – 87% complete (BDT 90.16 crore), Universal Social Infrastructure Development (GSID-2) – 80% complete, Village Road Rehabilitation (VRRP) – 100% complete, Nationwide Rural Infrastructure Development (CRMIDP) – 95% complete, Pond & Canal Development (IPCP) – 80% complete, Small-Scale Water Resources Development (SSWRDP-2) – 82% complete, Cooperative Model Village (DOC) – 60% complete, Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) – 80% complete, Urban & Union Land Office Construction (TULO) – 17% complete, Upazila-Town & Basic Infrastructure (UTMIDP) – 67% complete.

However, a major residential project under the PCRBSCP scheme for municipal sanitation workers has been stalled due to land-related complications.

Executive Engineer Kamruzzaman noted that upon taking charge in August following a change in government, he visited all project sites, cancelled problematic tenders, and resolved issues through direct consultation with contractors. To date, 9,251 kilometres of various rural roads have been constructed in Tangail under his leadership.

He emphasised that maintaining the quality of all development work remains his top priority and he is committed to strict oversight at every stage.
