Tamim set for commentary in India series

Tamim Iqbal, who last represented the national team in September of the previous year, has been absent from the cricket field since then. The seasoned opener might soon be seen in a new avatar. There is speculation that Tamim could take on the role of a commentator for the forthcoming series against India, although no official announcement has been made yet.

On Tuesday, Tamim was spotted boarding a flight to Chennai. Accompanying him on the same flight were several sports journalists travelling to cover the India series.

Tamim has previously demonstrated his ease and proficiency behind the microphone in the commentary box. He has openly shared his interest in pursuing a career in commentary after hanging up his cricketing boots.

In his own words, Tamim said, "I don't see myself stepping into coaching. However, commentary does appeal to me. I even received an offer for this World Cup, but unfortunately, it didn't work out. You might see me in the 2024 T20 World Cup."

Although that opportunity did not come to fruition, Tamim made his commentary debut during the home series against New Zealand in January. With the upcoming India series, Tamim has the chance to firmly establish himself in this new role, much to the delight of cricket enthusiasts.

Despite his prolonged absence from the field, Tamim remains a hot topic of discussion. The cricket community has been abuzz with speculation about whether Tamim will return to playing cricket or take on a role as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The new BCB president, Faruk Ahmed, believes that Tamim still has the potential to play cricket. Conversely, some of Tamim's recent activities hint at a possible future as a board director.

It is worth noting that the series between Bangladesh and India, comprising two Test matches and three T20 internationals, is set to commence on the 19th of this month in India. The second and final Test will be held in Kanpur from the 27th of September. Both Test matches are scheduled to start at 10 AM Bangladesh time. Following the Test series, the T20 series will kick off. The first T20 match is slated for the 6th of October in Gwalior, with the second and third T20s scheduled for the 9th and 12th of October, respectively. All matches in this series will be day-night fixtures.
