Alhaj Advocate Md. Shah Alam is a leading industrial entrepreneur and successful businessman in Bangladesh. He is the founding chairman of Matador Group.
About 4000 employees and officials are working in the Matador Group. Advocate Shah Alam is a philanthropist. He has a good reputation for timely payment of salary to his employees. He is better known as Shah Alam Ukil in old part of Dhaka. An Islamic thinker, he is engaged in social activities in Lalbagh Hazaribagh area.
He is also a lawyer. He has a reputation for financially helping the poor people in the area with legal services. But he is averse to publicity when it came to donations.
Recently, journalists spent some time talking to him about the life of such a noble person. He shared the story of his aspirations, successes and failures in life. Shah Alam said, “I am trying my best to work for the people as a small person like me.
I wanted to do something good for the local people. I entered the business world in 1980 with Matador Pen. Matador Group of Industries has become a well-established industrial company in the country thanks to united efforts of all.
“We have established numerous companies including stationery, personal care products, food products, construction materials, plastic products, entertainment and hospital services,” he said.
Advocate Shah Alam said, “I seek blessings from the Almighty so that my children can materialise my dreams. I would like all of you to pray for me and my children.”
He said, ‘We set up Rafiqul Islam Mollah madrasa and mosque complex worth about over Tk one crore in the area. Hazaribagh Borhanpur Jame Masjid has been built on the model of Saudi Arabian mosque.”
We donated to different mosques and orphanages including Kazirbagh Mosque Madrasa, Azim Uddin Huzur Orphanage, Matador Staff Quarter Mosque, Chandpur Hajiganj Jaisara Chowdhury Bari Mosque and Madrasas. Apart from this, we also provided financial assistance to many mosques and madrassas in Dhaka's Kamrangir Char area.
Besides, we helped destitute to perform holy Hajj.
Shah Alam also said, Matador is the first initiative of my youth. Today I am able to benefit people because of this initiative.
We managed accommodation facility for the employees here, proving financial support for their children, providing scholarships, eliminated unemployment in the area. We have established Matador Hospital in the area.
